Positive Change for Marine Life’s Waste to Wealth program in Kerala is already seeing strong early results from support provided through The Intrepid Foundation’s Impact Grant.
In Vizhinjam, our India team has been working with local families to strengthen community composting and reduce the amount of organic waste entering streets, drains, waterways, and coastal ecosystems.
In less than two months, the new composting facility has collected 2,623kg of wet waste and converted it into 1,665kg of compost. More than 40 families are now participating in the system, helping turn household organic waste into a practical resource for the community.
The team has also secured farmland where the compost will soon be used to support local growing activities, creating a direct link between waste recovery, soil health, food production, and community resilience.
This is what Waste to Wealth is designed to do: build simple, practical systems that reduce pollution, create local value, and support communities to lead environmental solutions in the places they call home.
We are grateful to The Intrepid Foundation for supporting this work and helping expand community-led waste recovery in Kerala.
As the project grows, our India team will continue working with families, local partners, and community members to strengthen composting, improve waste recovery, and demonstrate how coastal communities can turn waste into opportunity.
