Empowering Climate Resilience: Challenges and Opportunities for Adaptation
This engaging session at APAN8 2023 will focus on three key themes, underpinned by the resilience of the communities to improve climate adaptation measures while promoting adaptive action at the local level.
The session will be interactive having three breakout sessions.
The first theme, “Practicing Locally-led Adaptation (LLA) through Partner Collaboration of AP-PLAT” focuses on a regional platform for the Asia-Pacific that provides a wide range of information, tools and capacity development programs on climate change adaptation, particularly discussing partner collaboration activities on Locally-Led Adaptation (led by the Japanese Ministry of Environment).
The second theme, “The role of the Pacific Climate Change Centre (PCCC) in advancing transformative climate change adaptation implementation in the Pacific” focuses on two tools that have been used by Pacific Island practitioners to provide decision support for planning ecosystem-based adaptation initiatives and a methodology used to track measurable impact of past adaptation efforts with the potential for informing future adaptation efforts (led by the Secretariat for the Pacific Regional Environment Programme).
The third theme, “Marginalised communities as drivers of climate adaptation: strengthening resilience through decentralised food, water, waste, and rewilding programs” will explore successful, multi-stakeholder case-studies in India, Bangladesh, the Solomon Islands, and Australia, which are led by marginalised communities, for marginalised communities (led by Positive Change for Marine Life).
