Sponsored by Redland City Council, Phase I of the Tingalpa Creek River Warriors project saw 5,164 pieces (745kg) of individual debris collected across 12 surveys. Our team covered a total length of 25.1km by kayak and highlighted fishing line and foam insulation and packaging as the two main items found. The creek scored an overall rating of ‘D’ for marine debris health, based on 3 key variables.

With over 5km of fishing line recovered, this is a major issue that we plan to address by working with recreational fishers to retrieve and properly dispose of their fishing line. For a more in-depth outline of the project, check out our State of Marine Debris Report and Report Card below.
