River Warriors Redlands - Marine Debris Report Card Launch

  • Wellington Point Recreational Hall 347-371 Birkdale Road Wellington Point, QLD, 4160 Australia (map)

On Thursday February 27 we will host a free event outlining the findings of Phase I of our River Warriors project on Tingalpa Creek!

For almost 8 years Positive Change for Marine Life has engaged with local communities in Australia, and across the globe to find solutions to pressing issues facing marine ecosystems.

With around 8 million metric tons of plastic making its way into the ocean annually, we are encouraging the Redlands community to take action to assist in efforts to protect the coast's diverse and beautiful waterways.

Over the past 12 months our Redlands Team have run weekly kayak-based surveys on Tingalpa Creek to collect data and trends on marine debris and pollution. 68 volunteers assisted in removing and recording over one tonne of litter from the waterway, with a total of 8,648 individual items found across 13 surveys.

Our findings reflect accumulation hotspots along the river and identify the major sources of debris. They will enable us to develop targeted strategies to tackle the issue at its source, alongside a variety of stakeholders as the project seeks further funding this March.

On Thursday February 27 we will host a free event outlining the findings of Phase I of our River Warriors project on Tingalpa Creek.

The night will mark the release of our Marine Debris Report Card, as well as a discussion on potential solutions to the issue and where the project will go to from here. There'll be free food and drinks and an opportunity to meet some of our team, including our CEO.

Join the PCFML Redlands team to hear more about our ongoing work on the estuary, as well as how you can become an integral part of this vital project!

River Warriors Redlands is proudly funded and supported by the Redland City Council Community Grants program.
