An update on our work in 2016 and a big thank you to all of you for your continued support helping us to help the ocean...
5 Ambassadors from 3 countries helped us implement a number of projects to address waste, reduce pollution and empower the community towards a brighter future as part of our Marine Conservation Masterplan. Read on to find out more!
7 months, 24 surveys, 19 volunteers, 429 volunteer hours and 40.2km travelled by kayak saw our team collect 22,925 items from the Tallebudgera Creek on the Gold Coast, weighing in at 1,539kg! Our report and findings were released at the Gold Coast Recreation Centre in February and we are excited to be launching Phase II to address marine debris in Tallebudgera Creek at it’s source, whilst working with a variety of stakeholders towards long-term behavioural change.
Our team in India has been researching, developing and introducing sustainable single-use products and packaging to replace the proliferation of single-use plastics at local vendors and restaurants across Kovalam and Vizhinjam. Coupled with education and outreach programs, we believe that together we can turn the tide on marine plastic pollution in the region!
The end of the busy fishing season and monsoon in Kerala was the perfect time for us to start our cleanup and ongoing survey’s in Vizhinjam Harbour.
The team in India have been working on an exciting new project for the last few months. Collaborating with our local partner SISP’s social enterprises workshop (employing women and youth from below the poverty line), we have been creating alternatives to plastic products for our new major partner Happy Travels! Join us in celebrating the first-step in our new sustainable products journey through our biggest corporate partnership yet - the Happy Planet initiative!
