townsville | honour the ocean beach survey coordinator

Growing up in the ocean and hills of Byron Bay, I have always had a passion for nature and a fascination with the environment around me. I soon learned how much it all needed protecting and decided to do something about it. Starting off in a communications degree and moving to and completing a Bachelor of animal and veterinary bioscience with honours in conservation, I developed the knowledge to understanding complex ecosystems and ways in which to manage and protect them.

I have been lucky enough to travel and work in some amazing countries and environments, which continues to reignite my passion for protecting the planet. I have a particular love for the ocean and most days you'll find me in or near the water.

I started volunteering with PCFML in 2015, beach cleaning in Gordon's Bay in Sydney and in Byron Bay. I loved the feeling of giving back and helping out a cool organisation and I came across an amazing opportunity to embark on an adventure as a global ambassador with PCFML to develop marine conservation strategy for a country in desperate need of some help.

Amazingly, by February 2017 I was on the trip of a lifetime to Kerala, India. Meeting people from all walks of life, cleaning beaches, researching environmentally sustainable employment and educating the community, particularly in regards to marine conservation. After this trip I got involved in hosting a fundraising event at the Byron Brewery in February 2017 and will then hosted a follow up event in February 2018, before the full-time team got started on the ground again in India. I've recently moved to Townsville to undertake a Master of Marine Science at James Cook University, where I'll also be expanding PCFML's operations and leading their beach survey team there.
