Board Member / Project Lead Sunshine Coast
Shayan is a sustainability professional with 7+ years of experience working in the United States, Qatar, South Africa and Australia. Shayan worked with the United Nations Association in San Diego while completing a Bachelor’s degree in the field of International Relations in California. As a post-graduate, he focused on global change science, the sustainable development goals and planetary boundaries framework while studying climate change and sustainable development in South Africa. He was a contributing author on the United Nations Environment Program’s 6th Global Environment Outlook report, and worked alongside Qatar’s Ministry of Environment, the FIFA World Cup 2022 Committee as well as the Recycling and Economic Development Initiative of South Africa to integrate sustainability policies into development planning. While in Qatar, Shayan served as the country manager of a Californian manufacturing company that brought sustainable technologies to the plastic and tyre recycling industries.
Shayan is currently the Manager of Special Projects and Sustainability at the Cleanwater Group in Australia, leading the company’s research on sources of ocean plastic, as well as using geographic information systems for operations, workforce management, data collection, and data analysis. He also oversees Cleanwater Group’s education, community engagement, and product innovation programs that drive society’s shift to a circular economy.
Shayan is a Board Member with PCFML and currently leads our research to develop ecologically-focused projects on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia.
