Our Inaugural Mullumbimby to Brunswick Heads River Clean Up!

Saturday August 5 saw the launch of our inaugural Mullumbimby to Brunswick Heads river clean up! With over 40 participants and the incredible assistance of our project partners Byron Bay Eco Cruises and Kayaks, The Cookie Shack Byron Bay, Go Sea Kayaks and Mullum Cares we collected hundreds of items, including old bins, crab pots, tables and chairs that had been washed down the river in the recent floods.

"Byron Bay Eco Cruises & Kayaks (BBECK) have done 6 clean-ups on sections of the Brunswick River over recent years, however the rubbish continues to enter the river. Approximately 1000kgs of rubbish was collected by kayaks with some really big items that needed to be transferred to BBECK’s river boat including wheelie bins, table, chairs and unfortunately the usual plastic bags and bottles", said Simon Freeden of BBECK.

The crew from Go Sea Kayaks donated 10 of their boats, as well as life jackets and paddles to the clean-up effort, whilst also ferrying our volunteers in their Go Sea troopie. The Cookie Shack Byron Bay assisted by putting the idea of a river-long clean-up forward to the PCFML crew, whilst also providing a jar of their INCREDIBLE home-made cookies to the well deserving crew post-clean-up. Thanks also to Mullum Cares for participating and promoting the event, while continuing to do great work in Mullumbimby and Byron Bay to move toward a healthier, more sustainable future!

Keep an eye out for our retro-fitted boats throughout Byron and the Gold Coast over the coming months as we move to clean-up a river, creek or estuary near you!
